APA Minority Fellowship Program
The MFP's objective is to increase the knowledge of issues
related to ethnic minority mental health and to improve the quality of
mental health treatment delivered to ethnic minority populations. We do
this by providing financial support and professional guidance to individuals
pursuing predoctoral and postdoctoral training.
The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Fellowship (MHSAS), funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), supports the training of mental health service providers or practitioners, or those who will provide services in the field of substance abuse treatment or substance abuse prevention. There is also a Postdoctoral Fellowship in MHSAS available. The Diversity Program in Neuroscience (DPN); Predoctoral and Postdoctoral), funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), supports the training of research scientists in neuroscience. The goal of the DPN is to increase the numbers of individuals from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds in neuroscience who conduct research in areas of importance to NIMH, NIDA, or NINDS. The Psychology Summer Institute (PSI); funded by SAMHSA and APA, provides educational, professional development, and mentoring experiences to advanced doctoral students of psychology and psychologists who are in the early stage of their careers. Participants are guided through mentoring, networking, seminars, and workshops toward developing grant proposals, postdoctoral fellowships, dissertations, treatment programs, publications, or program evaluation projects. All projects must focus on issues affecting ethnic minority communities. |
