PsycCRITIQUES is a database of full-text reviews of books, videos, and popular films. It replaced the APA print journal Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, which APA published from 1956 to 2004.
PsycINFO, a division of the American Psychological Association (APA), produces PsycCRITIQUES in collaboration with APA Journals.
PsycINFO is the most comprehensive and authoritative database of bibliographic reference sources that cover scholarly and peer-reviewed publications in psychology and related disciplines.
The division also produces the electronic versions of APA journals and books in the PsycARTICLES and PsycBOOKS databases, as well as PsycEXTRA, a compilation of gray literature that is published outside the scholarly peer-review process.
PsycCRITIQUES combines weekly releases of 18–20 reviews with a full searchable database of reviews published in electronic form since September 2004 and published in the print journal Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books between 1956 and 2004.
Each week additional reviews of current copyright year books, videos, and films are released. Images of reviewed items are included when they are available. Each review published since 2004 includes a link to an author bio for the reviewer.
PsycCRITIQUES is searchable by author, reviewer, document title, and other standard search fields. Users can also browse by author, title, and year. Optional email alerts are available to lead you to a new table of contents for the weekly release. The database is indexed using APA's Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms vocabulary and the Classification Categories & Codes to facilitate precise retrieval.
Important search links in PsycCRITIQUES include:
- Link to previously published updates
- Link to reviewer biographies
- Link to cited references where available
The reviews are in HTML format.
If you are an APA member, PsycCRITIQUES is free with a Gold or Platinum Package
