The Michele Alexander Early Career Award for Scholarship and Service
The Michele Alexander Early Career Award for Scholarship and Service was established in 2005 to recognize early career excellence in scholarship as well as in service.
For this award scholarship is defined in terms of substantive academic (theoretical, empirical, or applied) contributions to the psychological study of social issues, while service defined as professional and/or community service.
This award is inspired in memory of Dr. Michele Alexander, a talented scholar and dedicated teacher who brought exceptional insight, passion, and commitment to social issues research. Dr. Alexander also gave generously to students, colleagues, and communities through voluntary service.
Award winners will receive a complimentary one-year membership to the SPSSI, an honorary plaque, and the opportunity to attend a SPSSI-sponsored event alongside the President of the organization, thereby providing the recipient with opportunities for networking and mentorship.
To be eligible for this award applicant should:
Be a member of SPSSI
Have received a Ph.D. within five years of the time of application
Applications should include:
A 500-word statement outlining how the nominee combines scholarship and service.
The nominee’s current curriculum vitae.
Nominations and self-nominations will be considered.
