APA's Board of Educational Affairs will award $10,000 in grants in 2012 to support conferences on enhancing the quality of undergraduate education in psychology and advancing the teaching of psychology at the secondary, two-year or four-year level. To qualify for funding, conferences must be directed by an APA member, associate or affiliate and meet the stated criteria.
Grant recipients may use the funds to offset travel expenses of selected conference participants, registration fees of conference participants and speaker fees. Applicants may qualify for up to $1,000 during a given year and applications for new as well as annual meetings are encouraged.
Eligibility
Criteria
To be considered for funding, applications must meet the following criteria:
the conference must advance the teaching of psychology at the secondary, 2-year, and/or 4-year level;
the conference must be directed by an APA member, associate, or affiliate;
the grant must be requested by an APA member, associate, or affiliate; and
the grant must be used to offset travel expenses of selected conference participants, registration fees of conference participants, and/or speaker fees.
Applicants who have previously received a BEA Grant(s) for conferences and who are currently seeking funding must also provide a summary evaluation of the outcomes of those previous conferences, such as participants’ conference satisfaction and goal attainment.
Rating
Grant proposals will be rated according to the following dimensions:
Advancing the Teaching of Psychology
Conference proposals will be rated on the extent to which the conference program will advance the teaching of psychology.
Importance
Proposals will be rated on the perceived importance, as expressed in a clear description of the conference objectives and activities.
Innovation
Program elements and activities will be rated for innovativeness.
Potential Impact
Proposals will be rated on the potential impact and suitability of content for the target audience.
Size of Audience
Proposals will be rated on the size of the probable target audience.
Budget
Proposals will be rated on the clarity and completeness of the conference budget and anticipated expenses, as well as confirmed and anticipated sources of funding.
Conference Program
Conference programs will be rated on completeness.
Educational Tools/Resources
Proposals will be rated on the extent to which they result in teaching tools and resources that can be submitted for possible inclusion on the American Psychological Association's website.
