The Division of Military Psychology (Division 19) of the American Psychological Association announces its annual competition for Military Psychology Research Grants. The purpose of the Military Psychology Research Grant program is to assist graduate/undergraduate students of psychology with costs associated with conducting research. This annual award will be presented to students whose research reflects excellence in military psychology. The award winner will receive a monetary award of $1500 to be presented at the annual convention. All materials must be submitted by May 1, 2012.
Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled, in good standing in a graduate/undergraduate program in psychology.
Applicants must be student affiliates of Division 19. Students who are not affiliates must apply for affiliation online prior to submitting materials for this Award; the Military Psychology Research Grant Committee must receive all materials in a complete pdf formatted package.
Applicants must have had their proposals approved by a faculty advisor prior to application.
The proposed research may be in any area of interest dealing with military psychology, including but not limited to, clinical research and industrial/organizational research.
How to Apply
Military Psychology Research Award Committee will examine all applications for eligibility.
A. 1-page maximum typed cover letter describing your research interests, experience, and career plans.
B. 5-page maximum summary of the research, including an explanation of research design and other important aspects of the project, and a brief explanation of proposed use of funds (i.e., a budget). The award must be used to support expenses that are directly related to the research (e.g., computer time, animal care, equipment, participant fees); it may not be used for tuition, travel, or personal expenses.
PLEASE NOTE: Figures or tables may be included only if they can be incorporated into the 5-page research summary. The research summary must not exceed the 5-page limit including budget details and any figures or tables.
C. 2-page maximum Curriculum Vitae including scientific publications and presentations.
D. 1-page maximum letter of recommendation from your academic advisor or professor.
The application form and the additional materials listed above must be scanned into one pdf document and emailed to the student representative for submission. Each applicant should keep a copy of the submitted materials.
Decisions will be based upon the quality of the submitted information. Panels of psychologists representing the breadth of military psychology will make funding recommendations to the Military Psychology Research Award Committee.
Award recipients will be announced during the Division 19 Business Meeting at APA. Funds will be provided directly to students following the announcement of the award recipients.
Each award recipient must submit a 1-page report specifying how the funds were used on August of the following year. The report must be co-signed by the chair or head of the Department.
