Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need
Description
Grants are awarded to programs and institutions to sustain and enhance the capacity for teaching and research in areas of national need. Competitions are usually held on an annual basis.
Awards are granted for a three-year period. Areas currently designated as "Areas of National Need" are mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, geological sciences, and computer science. Psychology is not listed as an area of national need, but psychology students may participate if the psychology department is asked to participate in consortia with a department designated as an area of national need.
