The Continuing Professional Education Committee (CPEC) seeks nominations for five new members to begin three-year terms on January 1, 2005. Members are required to attend three committee meetings each year in the Washington, DC area with expenses reimbursed by APA. Members also work on committee projects between meetings.
As defined in APA’s Association Rules, the committee develops policy and program recommendations for the association’s continuing education (CE) program, working collaboratively with the Office of Continuing Education in Psychology and the Continuing Education Sponsor Approval System. The committee’s tasks include:
- Developing and delivering CE programs and products.
- Providing educational and technical assistance to APA directorates, divisions, state associations and other sponsors.
- Collaborating with organizations that want to become APA-approved sponsors.
- Providing review of all sponsors and organizations seeking APA sponsor approval.
- Identifying, promoting, implementing and evaluating research, development and innovations in CE.
The Committee seeks to assemble a diverse group of psychologists. It encourages nominations from individuals who are committed to the concept of life-long learning, and is specifically looking for individuals with knowledge of or background in psychopharmacology, legal/ethical issues, substance abuse/addictions, humanistic psychology, private practice, I/O psychology, and psychologists employed in academic settings and counseling centers. CPEC is committed to maintaining a diverse and broad representation from all groups and areas of psychology.
The deadline for submissions is September 3, 2004. Nominations consisting of the nominee’s curriculum vitae and a letter stating the individual’s interest in serving should be submitted to Karen Kanefield, Sponsor Approval System, at the APA address or by email.
