2005 Division Leadership Conference
The Committee on Division / APA Relations (CODAPAR), is proud to announce that the 2005 Division Leadership Conference will be held January 7-9, at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C.
During this weekend, participants will be encouraged to develop long-range and strategic plans for their division, learn the nuts and bolts of leading their division and be provided opportunities to foster interdivisional collaborative ventures.
The conference kicks off with a Welcome Reception and Dinner on Friday, January 7. Participants will use this time to get acquainted with one another, their CODAPAR liaisons, Board of Director members and APA staff.
The conference officially opens Saturday, January 8 at 8:45 A.M. with a welcome address from current APA President-Elect, Ron Levant, EdD, in which he will speak on his presidential initiatives and how to get divisions involved. The 2005 DLC has been structured around three core priorities, ‘Membership’, ‘Getting to Know APA’ and ‘Getting Your Voice Heard’. On Saturday, the presentation on Membership will address issues of recruitment and retention. The 3 break-out working groups will address issues on ‘Diversity; ‘Early Career Psychologists’ and the ‘Retiring Psychologists’. ‘Getting to Know APA’ is designed to help familiarize participants with the different directorates of APA, their initiatives and how to get divisions involved. After the plenary, each directorate will host its own break-out session with the addition of a ‘Nuts & Bolts of APA’ session. Each plenary will have a variety of breakout working groups that you can choose to attend that may be more in line with your division’s agenda.
On Sunday morning, APA Chief Executive Officer, Norman Anderson, PhD, will present an update on current APA activities and the newly elected APA President-Elect will discuss his or her presidential initiatives for 2006. Following these presentations will be the final plenary session, ‘Getting Your Voice Heard’; touching on a variety of issues concerning APA publications and how to prepare for and address media issues. The break-out sessions will include ‘APA Governance Issues’, ‘APA Publications’ and ‘Media’.
We strongly encourage divisions to send at least one representative to attend the 2005 DLC. It will be a weekend of information sharing and knowledge gathering that will jump-start your presidential initiatives, clue you in to pitfalls to avoid, all the while, building relationships with other division leaders. If you are unable to make the DLC, we ask that you choose a representative from your executive board to represent your division.
We are confident that the 2005 DLC will be a valuable experience for you as move forward in becoming president of your division.
