CODAPAR Announces Call for Interdivisional Grant Programs

Back in May of this year, The Committee on Division / APA Relations (CODAPAR) sent notification to division leaders announcing the 2005 Interdivisional Grant Program “Call for Proposals “.

The Interdivisional Grant Program was reinstated last year by the APA Council of Representatives at its August 2004 meeting. Council voted to allocate $12,500 for the grant program. With this call, CODAPAR seeks proposals for collaborative projects sponsored by two or more APA divisions. The deadline to receive proposals has been set for Thursday, September 1, 2005. CODAPAR will make its recommendations to the Board of Directors at its December meeting so that funding for these collaborative projects will be made available at the beginning of 2006.

The Committee was pleased with the number of proposals submitted last year, as well as with the quality of the collaborations. Proposals have ranged from supporting conferences and workshops to publishing manuals and training materials to identifying specialties in a field of psychology. Here is a brief list of some of the diverse proposals that have been submitted:

  • Cultural Diversity Forum on Men and Masculinity
    Divisions: 12, 17, 44, 45 and 51
  • Opportunities for Retired Psychologists: Feasibility of a Web-based Venue
    Divisions 12, 13 and 20
  • Enhancing Women’s Negotiation Skills
    Divisions: 20, 21 and 40
  • Promoting Global Mental Health: Effective Utilization of the New Media Following Disaster and Terrorism
    Divisions: 46, 52
  • Sexual Orientation and Mental Health: Toward Global Perspectives on Practice and Policy
    Divisions: 44, 52

In order to streamline this process, CODAPAR encourages identifying a lead division to submit the proposal and having the presidents of other collaborating divisions submit the Sponsorship Form via mail, fax or email stating their involvement and support of the project.

If you have any questions about participation in the program or completing the proposal process, please contact Troy Booker. Materials may be mailed to the Division Services Office, attention “Interdivisional Grants Program” at the APA address; faxed to (+1/202) 218-3599 or emailed to Troy.

For your added convenience, you can access this information and the forms on the web at www.apa.org/about/division/divofficers.html.

We look forward to receiving your proposal by the September 1st deadline!

Town Hall Meeting: Exploring the Needs of Psychology and Psychologists in the 21st Century -- Your Chance to Shape the Future in an Open Exchange with APA Leaders and Members

Join a free-spirited discussion with APA President RON LEVANT, EdD, APA President-elect GERALD KOOCHER, PhD, and APA CEO NORMAN ANDERSON, PhD to brainstorm about the future for psychology and psychologists. What do you think APA must do to prepare itself for the needs and opportunities of the upcoming decades? Let your voice be heard. You can get a preview of the issues by reading P&P's 5-year Report in the July/August American Psychologist. Put on your thinking caps and show up at this town hall meeting to let the leaders and other members of APA know your opinions. We will even have a suggestion box on site just in case we don't get a chance to hear from everyone.

Division Services Booth at Convention

As we prepare for the upcoming APA Annual Convention being held in Washington, D.C., the Division Services Office would like to inform you that we will have a Divisions Booth. With this letter, we invite you to submit materials your division would like to have on display.

You may send membership brochures, applications, newsletters, journal information, as well as convention and hospitality suite programs. We are asking that you limit your supply to 100 copies of each piece. You may also send one copy of your journal as a sample display. If there are other pieces you would like to send, such as handouts for special projects or upcoming events, please feel free to do so.

The Division Services booth will also display information for those divisions that will sponsor a hospitality suite. Upon checking in and receiving your suite assignment, please stop by the booth or leave a message for me at the Message Center with the suite number, hours of operation and location.

All materials must be received in the Division Services Office on or by Monday, July 25th. When preparing your shipment, please remember to:

  • Put your name and division number on the OUTSIDE of each box.
  • List the box’s contents on the OUTSIDE of the box (e.g., newsletters, hospitality suite program). This will avoid having to open boxes before shipping to the D.C. Convention Center.
  • Complete the attached inventory sheet and return it separately.
