New Dissertation Award Offered on Work in Behavioral or Brain Science
APF is seeking applications for the $2,000 F. J. McGuigan Dissertation Award, which supports dissertation research on the materialistic understanding of the human mind, both empirically and theoretically. The research may address any aspect of mental function (e.g., cognition, affect, motivation) and should utilize behavioral and/or neuroscientific methods. Proposed research may fall within any area of contemporary behavioral or brain science (including more recent forms of cognitive psychology).

Second Annual Joseph B. Gittler Award
The Joseph B. Gittler Award is given each year for the most scholarly contribution to the philosophical foundations of psychological knowledge. The $10,000 award will be given a scholar whose body of work or whose individual work is of such consequence to have transformed the field of psychology. Scholars are invited to apply. Self nominations are welcome.

Preventing Violence
APF is offering up to $20,000 for projects that seek to encourage the transfer of psychological science with regard to violence and its prevention and support the implementation of innovative community programs aimed at preventing violence.
APF strongly encourages programs with a strong foundation in research and those that have, or show promise for, broad-based community support.

Graduate Research Scholarships Available
APF is accepting applications for the 2009 APF/COGDOP graduate research scholarships. Scholarships available include the $5,000 Harry and Miriam Levinson Scholarship, the $3,000 Ruth G. and Joseph D. Matarazzo Scholarship, the $2,000 Clarence J. Rosecrans Scholarship, and ten $1,000 scholarships.

Apply for Grant to Prevent Injuries in Children
APF is accepting applications for the 2009 $5,000 Lizette Peterson Homer Grant, which supports research into psychological and behavioral aspects of the prevention of injuries in children and adolescents (including non-intentional and intentional injuries). Types of research projects related to childhood injuries are those that are published in the Journal of Pediatric Psychology, although innovative projects are also encouraged.
Students and faculty are eligible to apply.
