CODAPAR is also excited to report that the IGP funds have been increased! At its February 2008 meeting, the Council of Representatives voted to increase the interdivisional grant pool to $25,000! The IGP is a grant program run by CODAPAR that awards funding to proposals for collaborative projects sponsored by two or more APA divisions. Interdivisional grants typically have been small grants designed to act as seed money to help in the initial stages of getting projects up and running. CODAPAR will continue to review and fund these types of grant proposals for which the IGP was originally created. However, with the increase of the IGP funding pool, CODAPAR will also consider proposals requests up to $5000. Priority will be given to those projects that promise the broadest reach across multiple divisions and that are especially broad in scope and impact. Please see the Call for Proposals for more details. The deadline to receive proposals is Friday, September 5, 2008. CODAPAR will make its recommendations to the Board of Directors at its December meeting and funding for these collaborative projects will be announced and made available at the beginning of 2009. Divisional Activities ArchiveThis is an information hub for division officers archiving division activities around pertinent issues division leaders face on a regular basis. These documents are comprised of information gathered from the Division Annual Reports, informal surveys and polls conducted on the Division Officers listserv and resources from the Division Services Office. This archival hub was created to share this wealth of knowledge and documented experiences with division leaders. Before reinventing the wheel, see what activities have been successful, pitfalls to avoid, how similar and different divisions are structured and Save time on creating initiatives and projects!
Please note, the information contained in the documents above has been collected over several years and may have changed. These discussions and surveys have been voluntary and not all divisions responded; therefore data may be missing or incomplete. Information for Division Governing BodiesThe IRS has recently made significant changes to the tax reporting required of non-profit organizations, and APA Divisions are now required to certify compliance with certain good governance policies as part of their group tax return. Division leaders should be aware that APA policies on Conflict of Interest, Whistle Blower and Document Retention apply to the Divisions, and should be complied with at all times. Those policies are reproduced below.
Handbook for Division OfficersThe handbook includes information for division leadership on the relationship between divisions and APA, elections, governance, membership status, funds, convention, publications, and services.
Apportionment BallotsApportionment ballots determine representation on the APA Council of Representatives. Following are links to more information on apportionment and sample mailings from divisions asking their members to put their votes toward their division. The apportionment ballot mails about October 31 each year via bulk rate (standard) and should reach members in 10-15 working days. The election closes about December 15 each year. Results are sent to Council members via their listserv and posted in the Monitor. They are also included in the Division Dialogue.
Division Annual ReportsDivision Officers: The 2007 Division Annual Reports are annual reports are due February 1, 2008. The Annual Reports help CODAPAR identify new division projects and initiatives and monitor division activities for compliance with the American Psychological Association’s bylaws, policies and rules. Divisions that have chapters and/or sections are reminded that a separate annual report should be completed by each chapter and section. These reports should be submitted along with the division’s annual report. All reporting forms are below. For electronic copies of the reporting forms, please contact Troy Booker via Email. Electronic submissions of the annual reports are highly recommended!
2008 Division Leadership ConferenceCODAPAR would like to announce the 2008 Division Leadership Conference (DLC), being held January 25-27 at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington D.C. This leadership conference is designed to help division presidents-elect get to know APA and its staff, interact productively with other division leaders, plan for their own presidency, and be better prepared to handle some hot topics like membership and legal concerns. Fully 93% of recent attendees strongly recommended that incoming division presidents-elect should attend the DLC. It promises to be a weekend of information sharing and knowledge gathering that will jump-start presidential initiatives, highlight resources in APA Central Office and activities that carry liability, not to mention, present opportunities to build relationships with other division leaders. Don’t leave your division unrepresented! If your division’s president-elect is unable to participate in the DLC, we highly recommend another representative is chosen from your executive board to attend!
