Jennifer Doran, MA

Biography

Jennifer Marie Doran, MA, is a fourth-year clinical psychology doctoral candidate at The New School for Social Research in New York City. Her clinical interests include working with adolescents and adults, particularly individuals with histories of trauma or abuse, or exposure to war and other disasters. She also is interested in psychological testing and the intersection between psychology and law in forensic contexts. Doran is a predoctoral extern in the Mt. Sinai Medical School's World Trade Center program, where she works with first responders from 9/11. She also works in her university counseling center with undergraduate and graduate students. Her research focuses on the mechanisms of change in psychotherapy and how therapeutic progress is measured psychometrically and statistically. Additionally, she conducts research on traumatic stress and on graduate student training and development. Doran is a former editor of the New School Psychology Bulletin, a journal for graduate student work. During her tenure, she helped design and implement a training program for authors and peer-reviewers. She currently serves on the editorial board for the Graduate Student Journal of Psychology and on the student reviewer board for the journal Psychology of Women Quarterly. Doran has a history of leadership and advocacy, and is active in several APA divisions and her state psychological association. She is the current chair for the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students, and previously served on APAGS Science Committee. Doran is interested in maximizing organizational effectiveness and in enhancing the marketing and branding of psychology to policymakers and the public.
