Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) FY 2008 Funding

The CDP continues to have a champion in Congressman Bill Young (R-FL), Ranking Member of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. Further, in the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, Senators Mikulski and Domenici also expressed interest in requesting funding for the CDP program.

The CDP was “officially” launched this year with the hiring of David Riggs, PhD and two staff. The CDP is located at the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. For each of the ten satellite sites located at military hospitals, a staff member was also hired. CDP staff have developed the curriculum for a two week-long intensive training course for up to 25 professionals including military psychologists (in preparation for deployment or those working at US military facilities) and civilian psychologists (who either work in areas with high incidences of returning service members or want to volunteer their services). Participants may receive 50 continuing education credits.
