Graduate Psychology Education Program Appropriations Update - May 2011

The GPE Program was included in the FY 2011 Omnibus bill last December at the level of $7 million, our full request, enjoying bipartisan support from both chambers of Congress; however the Omnibus bill did not pass. Despite a request to eliminate hundreds of federal programs and reduce the federal deficit by $61 billion, the Republican-dominated House included the GPE Program in its proposed FY 2011 budget as did the Democrat-dominated Senate. The President's FY 2012 budget that came out in February requested doubling the number of GPE grants from 20 (the current level) to 40, thereby recommending a significant increase in funding. Since 2002, the GPE Program has supported over 100 grants in 32 states for approximately $27 million.
