From Left: George Ake, III, PhD, Rep. Buerkle (R-NY), Shelley MacDermid Wadsworth, PhD, and David Rudd, PhD, ABPPAPA members David Rudd, PhD, ABPP, and George Ake, III, PhD testified at a February 27 hearing before the Health Subcommittee of the U.S. House Veterans' Affairs Committee, titled Building Bridges between VA and Community Organizations to Support Veterans and Families. This hearing is a follow-up to the December 2011 military and veterans mental health workshop for faith-based providers that APA coordinated with the office of Representative Ann Marie Buerkle (R-NY).

Dr. Rudd's testimony highlighted ways in which the mental health community can collaborate with the faith-based community and college and university campuses to support veterans. Dr. Ake discussed  ongoing collaborations between the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and key government and community partners to support military families.  Seven members of the House Veterans Affairs Committee attended and actively engaged with the APA members on questions of how to improve community partnerships to address the mental health needs of military service members, veterans, and their families.
