APA Urges Action on UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)

APA joined CEDAW task force members sending a Jan. 3 letter (PDF, 83KB) to all United States senators, urging their leadership and support of CEDAW ratification in the 113th Congress. The task force is a national coalition of over 125 member organizations working towards CEDAW ratification.

For over 10 years, APA has supported ratification of this critical U.N. convention, which:

  • Offers a set of principles for ensuring basic human rights for women.

  • Defines what constitutes discrimination against women.

  • Provides a fundamental framework for ending violence against women.

  • Ensures girls' access to education.

  • Promotes economic opportunity and political participation for women.
