Public Interest Advocacy Day--September 18, 2008
The Public Interest Government Relations Office (PI-GRO) will offer an opportunity for PI Committees and BAPPI to participate in a federal advocacy workshop followed by visits with federal policymakers (or their staff) on Capitol Hill. The advocacy workshop will provide participants with information about the federal legislative process, effective strategies for informing and influencing federal policymakers, and a detailed briefing regarding a timely federal policy issue. Following the advocacy workshop, participants will visit the office(s) of their member(s) of Congress, or other key Congressional offices, to discuss the federal policy issue on which they were briefed at the advocacy workshop. PI-GRO staff will facilitate the scheduling of these appointments and will prepare briefing materials for participants to distribute during their congressional visits.
Prior to the workshop, participants are encouraged to review the document titled Advancing Psychology in the Public Interest (PDF, 471 KB) along with the issue-specific materials provided on this website. On the day of the event, participants are strongly encouraged to bring business cards, cameras, comfortable shoes, and an umbrella.
