APA Joins National Coalition in Call for Federal LGBT Workplace Protections
On April 24, 2013, APA joined The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and over 90 undersigned organizations in a letter (PDF, 207KB) calling for Congress to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Introduced in the Senate by Sens. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Mark Kirk, R-Ill., and in the House by Reps. Jared Polis, D-Colo., and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., ENDA extends federal employment discrimination protections that are currently provided on the bases of race, religion, gender, national origin, age and disability to sexual orientation and gender identity. APA seeks to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge on gender identity and sexual orientation to benefit society and improve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people's lives; accordingly, APA has long championed passage of a fully inclusive ENDA bill.
