PI-GRO facilitated the participation of APA member Abigail Gewirtz, PhD, at a May 3, 2011 congressional briefing in honor of
National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. Dr. Gewirtz discussed the success of her
National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) program in raising the standard of care and improving access to services for traumatized children and their families. In addition, Dr. Gewirtz met with key staff from the offices of Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Al Franken (D-MN) and Representatives Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) to inform them about the important contributions of the NCTSN and urge their support for continued funding in the FY 2012 budget.
