APA Comments on Federal Behavioral Counseling and Sexually Transmitted Infections Proposal
Recommendations focus on diversity, childhood sexual abuse, and provider capacity issues
APA submitted comments (PDF, 61KB) on May 23, 2014, to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force on their draft recommendation statement for behavioral counseling to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STI). In the comments, the association suggested that the recommendation more explicitly address demographic characteristics of clients, childhood sexual abuse, and provider capacity. The comments also call for wide dissemination of the recommendation, once finalized, and partnering with diverse stakeholders — including mental health professionals — to promote implementation.
