Activities for LGBT Health Awareness Week Focus on Workplace Issues

APA pushes for House vote on anti-discrimination legislation

In observation of the 2014 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Health Awareness Week, a national event promoting LGBT health, APA called upon leadership in the House of Representatives to prohibit workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Workplace protections not only are fundamental to preserving basic human rights and dignity of LBGT persons, but can also have positive mental and physical health benefits. In a letter sent on March 24, 2014 (PDF, 29KB), APA Chief Executive Officer Norman B. Anderson, PhD, urged Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner to bring H.R. 1755, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), to the House floor for a vote. To encourage action in the House, APA circulated a Federal Action Network action alert to House members calling for action before the end of the 113th congressional session. The Senate approved S. 815, the companion bill, in November 2013.

ENDA represents a long-standing priority for the association. Please sign up for APA Federal Action Network alerts to help support future efforts.
