APA Weighs In To Support Raising the Minimum Wage
Cites need to raise full-time workers out of poverty
APA’s CEO, Norman Anderson, PhD, sent a letter on April 2, 2014, to every United States senator indicating APA’s support the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013 (S. 460). He emphasized that a worker with a child at a full-time minimum wage job still earns a salary falling below the federal poverty line. Psychological research demonstrates the adversity and harm that poverty imposes on individuals and families, and APA supports raising the minimum wage to lift low-wage workers out of poverty. This legislation seeks to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $10.10 per hour.
