APA Backs Legislation to Prevent Sex Trafficking of Foster Care Youth

Organizational commitment to human rights, protection of young people guides effort

APA submitted an April 30, 2014, letter (PDF, 36KB) to the House Committee on Ways and Means supporting the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act (H.R. 4058). This bipartisan legislation would improve information on children who become victims of sex trafficking and take steps to prevent sex trafficking of youth in foster care. It also would provide important supports for youth in foster care and tools for those transitioning out of the child welfare system.

This effort is linked to recent APA advocacy efforts related to the Boko Haram kidnappings in Nigeria, continuing APA’s strong commitment to human rights, the protection of youth, and working to prevent and intervene in trafficking.
