As we reported in October’s Psychological Science Agenda, NICHD Director Duane Alexander is leaving the Institute. On Monday, October 19th, APA and the Friends of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development hosted a luncheon honoring Duane Alexander for his leadership of the Institute and support for women and children’s health research. APA CEO Norman Anderson was on-hand to thank Alexander personally for his years of service and support for the Institute’s behavioral research programs. NICHD continues to support behavioral research in child development, reading and early learning, health behaviors, family formation, and rehabilitation. Susan Shurin, now Deputy Director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, has agreed to serve as the NICHD Acting Director while a search for a new Director is conducted.
