APA Staff Invited to VA/DoD Mental Health Summit

APA staff who cover issues relevant to military personnel and veterans were invited to attend the October 26th opening session of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)/Department of Defense (DoD) Mental Health Summit on America’s 21st century response to the psychological needs of returning veterans and service members.
APA staff who cover issues relevant to military personnel and veterans were invited to attend the October 26th opening session of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)/Department of Defense (DoD) Mental Health Summit on America’s 21st century response to the psychological needs of returning veterans and service members. DoD Secretary Gates and VA Secretary Shinseki presented keynote addresses at the Washington, DC event, speaking eloquently about the critical need for better understanding, assessing, preventing and treating psychological wounds in military and veteran populations and their families.  A number of APA members were invited to participate in the week-long summit, with the goal of developing a public health model for enhanced mental health.
