Friends of VA Coalition Meets with Chief Research and Development Officer
FOVA and APA are kicking off efforts to advocate for VA research and infrastructure needs in the Fiscal Year 2011 budget.
Science GRO’s Heather Kelly and colleagues from the Friends of VA Medical Care and Health Research Coalition (FOVA) met last week with Joel Kupersmith, MD, Chief Research and Development Officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Kupersmith and his staff presented an overview of the intramural VA research program, including priority areas such as mental health, physical and psychosocial rehabilitation, genomics, and prosthetics. In a health care climate in which “comparative effectiveness research” has become increasingly relevant, the VA is well-positioned to capitalize on its decades of research trials and the kinds of analyses made possible by its Electronic Health Record data. FOVA and APA are kicking off efforts to advocate for VA research and infrastructure needs in the Fiscal Year 2011 budget.
