APA Congressional and Executive Branch Fellows Meet with Rep. Brian Baird

Rep. Baird discussed his votes on recent legislation and described ways in which psychologists’ expertise can be critical behind the scenes in the policy environment on Capitol Hill.
APA FellowsDirectors of APA’s Congressional and Executive Branch Science Fellowship programs provided a special opportunity for the current APA Fellows to meet with Rep. Brian Baird, psychologist and Democratic Congressman from Washington state.  APA Fellows are spending this year in the office of Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) and in the National Science Foundation’s Office of Legislative and Public Affairs.  On March 26, the Fellows had a rare chance to sit down with Rep. Baird, who has served as the Chairman of the House Science and Technology’s Subcommittees on Research and Science Education and Energy and Environment.  He discussed his votes on recent legislation and described ways in which psychologists’ expertise can be critical behind the scenes in the policy environment on Capitol Hill.    Rep. Baird has announced his retirement from the House of Representatives at the conclusion of the current session of Congress.
