APA requests additional data on NIH substance use research portfolio
The draft “straw model” has been delayed pending further review of the SUAA portfolio
On March 24, APA sent a letter to the Co-chairs of the SUAA Task Force in anticipation of the release of a draft “straw model” for the reorganization of substance use, abuse and addiction research at NIH. The letter (PDF, 278 KB) requested additional baseline data from which to assess changes in the funding and distribution of that portfolio. As this issue of SPIN goes to press, we have just learned that the draft “straw model” has been delayed pending further review of the SUAA portfolio. A joint meeting (PDF, 28 KB) of the NIDA and NIAAA Advisory Councils has been scheduled for the morning of April 11 with NIH Director, Francis Collins.
