APA’s Science GRO provides federal advocacy training to I/O psychologists

SIOP has committees and task forces on scientific affairs, science advocacy and external relations
Heather O’Beirne Kelly, PhD, in APA’s Science Government Relations Office (Science GRO), was invited to provide federal science advocacy training at the April annual meeting of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP—APA Division 14). SIOP has committees and task forces on scientific affairs, science advocacy and external relations, and seeks to engage its members in strategically positioning themselves and the organization to be more involved in advocacy in multiple arenas. Science GRO has collaborated with many I/O psychologists over the years to provide Congressional testimony, meet with agency staff and develop briefs for policy-makers. Kelly also urged SIOP and its members to capitalize on the relevance of its applied research and consultation expertise to legislative activities and to broaden their reach to the media and policy communities.
