By Douglas K. Constant

The American Psychological Association will be adding the following periodicals to its highly recognized list of scholarly and professional journals:

  • Psychology of Violence (released 2011)

  • Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice (scheduled for release in 2012)

APA journals are among the most widely circulated and frequently cited publications in the field of psychology. Coupled with other marketing initiatives or used exclusively, they deliver a highly specialized, targeted circulation of influential buyers. Psychologists and other professionals in the behavioral and social sciences rely on APA journals for current research and developments in their specialty. Be sure to add the Psychology of Violence to your 2011 media plan. Below is a brief summary of each publication.

Psychology of Violence

Circulation: 300
Published quarterly (Jan, April, July, and October)

Psychology of Violence is a multidisciplinary research journal devoted to violence and extreme aggression, including identifying the causes of violence from a psychological framework, finding ways to prevent or reduce violence, and developing practical interventions and treatments.

Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice

Published quarterly in 2012

Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice (CFP) will be a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes papers representing the science and practice of family psychology. CFP, as the official journal of the Society for Family Psychology (APA Division 43), is intended to be a forum for scholarly dialogue on the most important emerging issues in the field; a primary outlet for research, particularly as it impacts practice; and a source for papers on education, public policy, and the identity of the profession of family psychology. As a journal for the Society, CFP will provide a home for the members of the division and those in other fields interested in the most cutting-edge issues in family psychology. Unlike other journals in the field, CFP is focused specifically on family psychology as a specialty practice, unique scientific domain, and critical element of psychological knowledge.
