APAGS Call for Proposals for the 2007 APA Convention
San Francisco, CA August 17-20, 2007

The Review Process

The APAGS Convention Committee reviews and selects all APAGS convention programming. They are also responsible for planning special programs, student social events, and networking opportunities during convention. The Convention Committee consists of five appointed student members.

The Chair of the Convention Committee is selected by the APAGS Executive Committee. The Convention Chair then appoints the remaining members of the committee for two years. If you are an APAGS member and are interested in being on the Convention Committee, please contact the APAGS office.

Program proposals (symposia, conversation hours, and workshops) are evaluated based on the following general criteria:

  • Program supports APAGS general mission;

  • Topic is a current issue for APAGS members;

  • Program will draw sizeable and diverse audience;

  • Presenters are experienced, motivating, encouraging, informative,
    professional, and engaging;

  • APAGS member(s) must be included as presenters or the chair;

  • Students are less likely to receive this information /training in other venues such as their own graduate program;

  • Overall quality of proposal; and

  • Program will fit with or complement other scheduled APAGS programs.

Poster proposals are separated into two categories (Theoretical/Literature Review/Professional
Development and Empirical Research) and are evaluated based on the following general criteria:

Theoretical/Literature Review/Professional Development

  • Grounded in the literature;

  • Showcases current or emerging ideas;

  • Appeal of the topic;

  • Originality;

  • Overall quality of the proposal; and

  • A poster provides an appropriate venue for the material.


Empirical Research

  • Data collected;

  • IRB approval;

  • Grounded in the literature;

  • Appropriate methods of data collection;

  • Level of cutting edge research;

  • Appeal of the topic;

  • Contribution to the literature; and

  • Overall quality of the proposal.
