APAGS Convention Travel Awards
for First-Time Attendees

APAGS invites all APAGS members to apply for one of five (5) $1000 Convention Travel Awards being offered this year by APAGS and APA President Alan E. Kazdin, PhD. Applications will be reviewed by members of the APAGS committee. Essays will be judged based on the quality of answers (i.e., are they thorough, well-written, reasoned, and practical). Awards will only be given to first-time convention attendees.

Expectations of award winners:

  • Attend the Making the Most of Convention program on 8/14 at 10am.

  • Attend the Flying Solo program scheduled 8/14 from 5 - 5:50. During this program, students will meet with other 1st time conference attendees and some APAGS Ambassadors. There is also an optional dinner portion of this program to take place immediately following the Flying Solo meet-and-greet hour.

  • Provide APAGS with 2 updates during the year about how convention helped them. These updates will be featured in APAGS publications/on the APAGS website.

    • Provide commentary on meetings, presentations, or events that they attended that were particularly impactful or memorable.

    • Write brief essay on the topic: "What I gained from convention."

To apply, please submit the following:

  • An essay describing why attending the 2008 Annual Convention is important to you (500-word limit).

  • An abbreviated curriculum vita.

  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member that outlines the student's need and how the student could benefit from attending convention.
