Doctoral Programs in Family Psychology (1997) was developed by the Board of Directors of the Division of Family Psychology to assist prospective graduate students and faculty advisors in identifying and comparing available doctoral programs with an emphasis on family psychology. The 1997 directory includes approximately 100 programs that responded to a survey questionnaire sent to universities offering doctoral degrees in psychology and family life, as well as professional schools of psychology in the United States and Canada. Entries have been included from doctoral programs which self-identified as offering education and training opportunities at the doctoral level in family psychology. The directory was specifically designed to include doctoral education and training across the broad range of roles in which family psychologists function. The directory contains concise data on the programs of the listed schools in many important areas such as tuition and financial assistance, courses offered, theoretical orientation(s), demographics of the faculty and student body, average length, and goals of the program. The objective of this guide is to serve as a starting point for prospective students in their search for an appropriate program offering a doctoral degree in psychology with the possibility of substantive study in the area of family psychology.
While Doctoral Programs in Family Psychology is now out of print, an updated version is expected in Fall 2004. For more information, please contact
