APAGS On the Road

APAGS Internship Workshop
The workshop is designed to help students successfully navigate the internship application process. It offers students tips on finding a psychology internship and guidance on the application and Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Match process. Discussion will include various aspects of the application process such as calculating hours, completing the APPIC uniform application, composing and designing a CV, asking for and evaluating recommendation letters, communicating with supervisors and internship sites, identifying internship/training and career goals, and translating that information into a compelling personal statement. This workshop is presented by Carol Williams-Nickelson, Psy.D., Co-Editor and Author of Internships in Psychology: The APAGS Workbook for Writing Successful Applications and Finding the Right Match (APA, 2005) and Associate Executive Director of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) at the American Psychological Association headquarters in Washington, DC.

APAGS will have copies of Internships in Psychology: The APAGS Workbook for Writing Successful Applications and Finding the Right Match available for purchase at the workshop. The cost is $19.95 for APAGS members and $24.95 for non-APAGS members. Workshop participants are highly encouraged to have their own copy of the book for reference during and after the workshop. Programs or departments may wish to purchase workbooks in advance for their students (contact APAGS Central Office for more details).

Host APAGS!

Step 1
Fill out the APAGS Workshop Interest Form and mail/fax to the APAGS Central Office.

Step 2
APAGS will contact you to discuss the possibility of conducting a workshop based on the information you have provided.

Step 3
If possible, a date will be chosen based on your schedule and the availability of Dr. Williams-Nickelson.

Step 4
The host school/association will confirm arrangements for the location of the presentation and will actively advertise for the workshop. Please communicate with the APAGS Central Office regarding all arrangements.

If accepted as the organizer and host of an APAGS workshop, you will be responsible for arranging the location of the presentation, advertising to your target audience, and collaborating with the APAGS Central Office during the process.

APAGS generously funds hotel, food and travel costs for Dr. Williams-Nickelson to present two workshops per year. The host will be responsible for all other costs (e.g. room, set-up, food, advertising, etc.) and arrangements associated with the workshops. Please contact the APAGS Central Office to discuss budget and funding issues. Honorariums are welcome. APAGS will consider conducting more than two workshops per year if the host funds all of the presenters expenses and other costs, and pending the availability of the presenter. Locale decisions are made based upon all of the variables identified above and on a first-come, first-serve basis, particularly for those workshops that are partially funded by APAGS. Booking workshops should occur at least 6 months in advance, but preferably one year.

If you would be willing to host a workshop on your campus, please print out and complete the form below and fax it to (202) 336-5694 or mail to:
