December 2002
Hello APAGS Members --
We have fantastic news to share with you! The entire membership of APA
eligible to vote in APA elections voted in a landslide win for the proposed
amendments to the APA by-laws to allow an APAGS voting seat on the APA Council
of Representatives and a non-voting permanent seat on the APA Board of
Directors. These two groups are the highest governing bodies of the Association
and establish the policies and directives that govern all of the activities of
APA.
We have been working to secure a voting seat for APAGS on the Council of
Representatives for a number of years and our persistence has paid off. As you
may know, graduate student affiliates of APA (APAGS members) are not technically
full members of APA since APA is a doctoral level membership association. While
APAGS members do not yet have the privilege of voting in APA elections (we will
work on that next), we now have a very important -- legitimate -- voice in APA
through this historic accomplishment.
The coming year will be one full of celebrations for APAGS. Not only did we
win this critical vote for the by-laws change (effective January 2003) 2003
marks the 15th Anniversary of APAGS. We look forward to celebrating with you
throughout 2003 and we promise to work diligently to represent the collective
voice of APAGS members in a responsible and effective manner as a full member of
the APA Council of Representatives.
Best Wishes,
