William C. Howell Scholarship

Dr. William C. HowellIn recognition of Bill Howell's many contributions to psychology, colleagues and friends across the country have established a scholarship in his name: the William C. Howell Scholarship. This scholarship will be part of the American Psychological Foundation's (APF) Graduate Research Scholarship program. The program is administered by the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology (COGDOP) through APA's Science Directorate, a program Dr. Howell oversaw when he was the Science Directorate's Executive Director.

Dr. Howell led the American Psychological Foundation in placing a priority on supporting graduate students and early career psychologists—two groups that most need support. Thanks to Dr. Howell's leadership and vision, many young psychologists have received grants and scholarships that in many cases were pivotal in launching their careers.

"We have so many talented young people, and the William C. Howell Scholarship provides the opportunity to support a student for years to come," said Dorothy Cantor, PsyD, APF President. "The scholarship is a tribute to Bill and to his lifelong commitment to ensuring the future of psychology."
