Borders Books Partnership

State and regional associations across the country are finding innovative ways to educate the public about the value of psychological services.

For example, psychological associations have teamed with several Borders Books in California and Texas. For National Depression Screening Day last year and National Anxiety Disorder Screening Day in May, Borders' stores partnered with local psychological associations. During the events, practitioners offered screenings for interested customers and tables were set up to showcase books and information related to psychological health. These efforts were well received -- the associations enjoyed participating in these events which garnered media and public attention.

You can explore conducting similar efforts with your local Borders Books. Following is a sample letter which can be used to contact the Borders Books community relations manager in your area.

Dear [Insert Name]:

The American Psychological Association (APA) recently launched a national campaign to educate consumers on the importance of psychological health to their overall health and well-being. The campaign also provides resources on a variety of topics relating to psychological health. In communities across the country, civic groups, businesses and other organizations have joined with their state psychological association in a variety of educational events for consumers.

A number of Borders Books in California and Texas already have participated in these efforts. Built around National Depression Screening Day this past October and National Anxiety Disorder Screening Day in May, Borders' stores partnered with their local psychological association to offer resources for customers. During the events, tables were set up to showcase books and information related to psychological health, and practitioners offered screenings for interested customers. These efforts were well received and garnered media and public attention in many participating communities.

We would like to work with you to replicate the programs in our area for National Depression Screening Day this coming October and National Anxiety Disorder Screening Day in May. There are also other activities on which we can collaborate such as providing free lectures. We are confident that the associated publicity will provide recognition of Borders' community outreach and bring attention to the resources available in your store.

I have enclosed some materials to provide you with more information on our campaign. We look forward to your involvement in this community service effort. I will call you in the next few days to determine how we can move forward with this opportunity.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX
