How To Use This Kit

The campaign kit will provide an overview of the scope of our campaign and the manner in which it will be conducted on a national, state and local level. It will explain how the APA, the Practice Directorate, state associations, divisions and individual psychologists will play a role in helping to educate the public about our profession and the services we render.

It will provide the foundation for you to help mount a campaign that is national in scope, but local in its attention to your community's unique needs. The campaign kit provides the message, the research supporting our premises, and directions for building a grassroots effort to share information and educate our various constituencies.

The kit is written to provide you with the basis for a successful campaign structure. As you build your committees, the local campaign will take shape as part of an unprecedented movement toward addressing the changing healthcare environment. Your efforts will allow our profession to speak as one voice and be heard by millions!

While the kit provides you with a guide for planning your activities, it is also meant to stimulate your own original ideas. As the campaign progresses, there will be adjustments to the overall strategy. Space has been left in the kit for notes, updates and corrections as they may occur. You will no doubt encounter issues that have not been specifically addressed. Use the campaign kit as a reference guide to help you arrive at answers.

The great achievement of our public education campaign will be in the national dialogue it generates on the value of psychological services and its role in maintaining overall health. Its success will be measured in the numbers of people our message reaches through the media, advertising, workshops, meetings, and all of the ways you choose to communicate.

In our survey, America spoke loud and clear: it wants more information on psychology and its available services. Our public understands the importance of seeking help for emotional problems, but calls out for more information on how to do so. Use the campaign kit to organize, educate and inform. It can help you lead Americans to good emotional and physical health!
