Proclamation

WHEREAS, victims of violence in America today are most likely to be between the ages of 12 and 24; and

WHEREAS, Ninety two percent of students polled in an MTV survey said that violence in schools is a serious problem nationwide; and

WHEREAS the [insert name] Psychological Association, representing organized professionals in the field of psychology, is sponsoring youth and community forums in conjunction with MTV and [community forum sponsors] to raise awareness about the "Warning Signs" of violent behavior; and

WHEREAS, May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, and the [insert name] Psychological Association is committed to conducting youth anti-violence educational forums at school and community centers during the month of May to:

  • Increase youth knowledge about the "Warning Signs" of violent behavior and preventing violence against oneself; and
  • Increase youth knowledge of what to do when they recognize these signs in themselves or in their peers; and
  • Increase youth knowledge of how to get help.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, [insert name], Mayor of the City of/Supervisor of the County of [insert name of city/county], do hereby proclaim

May xx, 1999

as

Youth Violence Prevention Day in [insert name of city/county].
