A Call to Action from Russ Newman, Ph.D., J.D.

Thank you for your interest in the public education campaign. This is truly an exciting and important opportunity for us, as a profession, to harness our creativity and energy to gain the recognition and understanding our profession deserves.

The campaign is designed to answer the call by practitioners for tools that will help psychologists retain and attract business, ensure quality health care for people throughout the nation, and ultimately, to effectively challenge the current trends which over emphasize cost-driven limitations.

As we formally launch the public portion of the campaign, we are fortunate to be able to build upon the momentum created through an earlier step of the campaign, the National Conversation, which engaged hundreds of psychologists across the country in meaningful dialogue regarding how to deal effectively with the issues most critical to the future of our profession.

It is my hope that those who participated in the National Conversation, along with thousands of other psychologists throughout the nation, will seek involvement through their state and local psychological associations and divisions, or by forming local campaign committees in their respective communities.

The role that practitioners will play in helping to bring the campaign's messages to communities across the country cannot be underestimated. It is truly through the voices of the profession that the value of psychological services can be connected with the priorities and needs of the American public.

I congratulate you on your willingness to serve your profession and the public as we embark on a journey to enhance access to quality health care and ensure that people have the requisite information to decide when and how to get the help they need.
