Statement of Need
ADHD has been found to affect 3-5% of individuals throughout the lifespan. Proper diagnosis and treatment have been shown to dramatically reduce the impact of family, educational, and behavioral problems experienced by individuals with ADHD. It is believed that, with the right therapies, the myriad of life problems experienced by some individuals with ADHD, including school difficulties with language and learning, social functioning, as well as substance abuse, can be properly managed or even averted.

Program Description
ADHD impacts multiple aspects of daily life. Children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD often have impaired emotional intelligence and social functioning. ADHD impairments also interfere with processes of learning and language use, and individuals with untreated ADHD have elevated lifetime risk of substance use disorders. This symposium will describe recent research findings on the impact of ADHD in these domains and will assess effectiveness and limitations of pharmacological treatment options.

Who Should Participate
This symposium is designed for psychologists and other healthcare professionals interested in the latest research on the impact of ADHD.
