In this intermediate workshop participants learn to identify therapeutic change factors common to most therapies and change factors unique to cognitive behavior therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and experiential therapy. Therapeutic methods and techniques associated with these crucial variables will be discussed, as will a conceptual model that integrates the separate therapeutic schools at the level of theory and in clinical practice. Case examples will be presented, and participants will have the chance to present cases and apply this model to their own work.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify the common factors of change that cut across most therapies and those unique factors associated with the various therapeutic approaches;
2. Identify the four types or modes of integrative psychotherapies and important examples of each, with emphasis on the advantages and disadvantages of each mode;
3. Select methods and techniques from various psychotherapies in an informed and systematic way; and
4. Apply an integrative conceptual model to your own case formulations.
