Description
With the diagnoses of ADHD, NLD, and AS, the degree of overlap of symptoms, including symptoms of an executive dysfunction, is high, and confusion abounds as children diagnosed with one or another of these disorders often do not receive appropriate treatment for their individual needs. This introductory workshop is designed to bring some clarity to these diagnoses and how they differ from one another and offer practical strategies to help these children in an academic setting.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe at least three aspects of executive functioning and how these may be seen in individuals with ADHD, NLD or AS;
2. Identify at least two possible ways in which the initial presentation of symptoms consistent with a diagnosis of ADHD may be different between a preschool student and a high school student;
3. List at least two key differences between Asperger's syndrome and nonverbal learning disorder; and
4. Delineate at least three strategies to address symptoms of ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, and/or nonverbal learning disorder in the environment.
