Description
This intermediate workshop provides state-of-art practice knowledge and skills in psychological injury and law. Psychological injuries involve chronic pain, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Assessments should be comprehensive, scientifically informed, and impartial. They should take into account causality and deal with respondent validity (including malingering). Presenters deal with (a) psychological injury in forensic assessment and practice, (b) malingering, (c) the impact of psychological impairments on work and disability, and (d) return to work (RTW) determination. Discussion and questions are encouraged.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe the major areas in psychological injury and law and their application to forensic practice.
2. Specify the multiple factors involved in causality determination and also in establishing malingering and related negative response biases.
3. Delineate the complex relationships among impairment, disability, and return to work in psychological injury.
4. Summarize how to assess readiness to return to work and predict disability.
