Description
This introductory workshop focuses on two main uses of social media: how to create an effective social media presence and how to use social media in research. Attendees (a) receive an overview of the various forms of social media (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, etc.), (b) learn how a social media presence can be leveraged to enhance an academic and/or clinical career, and (c) learn ways social media can be used in research. Attendees learn how to create a social media presence during the workshop.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe the different types of social media sites.
2. Explain how social media could be used to enhance a clinical or academic career.
3. Describe the different ways social media can be used in behavioral research.
4. Apply efficient ways to host a social media presence.
5. Understand which social media sites are most likely to accomplish the user’s goals.
6. Describe the ethical issues involved in social media research.
7. Create a social media presence and use the site features.
