Dr. Alan Kazdin, President of the American Psychological Association on Psychology’s Environmental Impact
Announcer:
This week, researchers, practitioners and educators are convening in Boston at the 116 th American Psychological Association Convention to examine a wide range of current issues affecting our society, including how stress kills, the psychology behind hate crimes, how to change the nation’s diet, the link between childhood ear infections and obesity and how our emotions affect our political preferences.
Dr. Alan E. Kazdin, Ph.D, professor of Psychology and child psychiatry from Yale University and president of the American Psychological Association, describes psychology’s environmental impact.
Dr. Alan Kazdin:
“The problem of global warming is having enormous other effects that make it even more urgent than we realize. All the sciences are getting involved, but psychology is really positioned to be very relevant, because most of this comes down to human behavior. We convey messages to people that say ‘recycle this.’ how the message is stated dictates the extent to which people comply.”
