Harriet Lerner, PhD, is one of the most respected voices in the psychology of women and family relationships.

For three decades, she was a staff psychologist and psychotherapist at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas, and a faculty member and supervisor in the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry.

Currently in independent practice in Lawrence, Kansas, Dr. Lerner is the author of numerous scholarly articles and 10 books, including the New York Times best-seller The Dance of Anger, Women in Therapy, The Dance of Connection and, most recently, The Dance of Fear . Dr. Lerner’s books have been translated into more than 30 foreign editions.

She has been a columnist for magazines and newspapers and a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, NPR and numerous other national and international broadcasts.

She is also, with her sister, an award-winning children’s book author.

Dr. Lerner is best known for her ability to interweave feminist, psychodynamic and family systems perspectives and for translating complex theory into accessible and useful prose.

She currently lectures, consults and presents workshops on the impact of anxiety, fear and shame on relationship systems and the challenge of helping our clients and ourselves navigate the most difficult relationships with clarity, courage and personal integrity.
