Recovering From Economic Crisis: Preparing Employees for Opportunities and Challenges
(2146) Mitchell Lee Marks, PhD, is a member of the faculty in the College of Business at San Francisco State University and president of the consulting firm JoiningForces.org. He is recognized internationally as an innovator in understanding and addressing human and cultural aspects of major organizational transitions, including mergers, acquisitions, downsizings, and restructurings. He consults with a wide variety of organizations, ranging from small start-ups to large Fortune 100 companies, as well as government and nonprofi t agencies. He advises executives on issues of organizational change, team building, strategic direction, organizational effectiveness, corporate culture, human resources management, and the planning and implementation of mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and other transitions. Dr. Marks is the author of several books and articles on organizational change and behavior, including Charging Back Up the Hill: Workplace Recovery After Mergers, Acquisitions, and Downsizings and, with Philip Mirvis, Joining Forces: Making One Plus One Equal Three in Mergers, Acquisitions, and Alliances. Reflecting his careerlong commitment to the scientist–practitioner model, Dr. Marks has held leadership positions in both academic and business organizations, including founding director of the doctoral program in organizational psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology and national practice leader in human resources management at Mercer Consulting. Among the honors and recognitions for his research and applied work are the Outstanding Scholarly Contribution to Organizational Behavior Award from the Academy of Management and invitations to speak at the Harvard Business School and Smithsonian Institution. Dr. Marks earned his PhD in organizational psychology from the University of Michigan.
