President's Highlights Opening Session Metro Toronto Convention Centre With musical entertainment, an exciting keynote address, and the presentation of awards to distinguished colleagues, the Opening Session sets the stage for your 2009 convention experience! Convention Within the Convention Metro Toronto Convention Centre This year’s convention features special programming coordinated by APA President James H. Bray with the support of numerous divisions, boards, and committees. The 97 hours of programming are organized and scheduled thematically into topical tracks. 2009 Presidential Programming For his presidential programs, James H. Bray, PhD, is highlighting the subject areas and work of his three presidential task forces. Presidential Address Metro Toronto Convention Centre Title: The Future of Psychology Practice and Science
Presenter: James H. Bray, PhD, APA President Psychology is at an important juncture and is in the process of evolution and change to meet the needs for education, practice, and science in the 21st century. With advances in neuroscience, genetics, and collaborative healthcare, psychology is more relevant than ever. This presentation will discuss current challenges and future opportunities for science and practice of psychology. The work of two presidential task forces will be discussed and recommendations made for how the field of psychology needs to change and evolve in the 21st century. Speed Mentoring You’ve heard of speed dating. Why not try speed mentoring? APA President James H. Bray will host this lively, interactive session which will provide early career psychologists and graduate students the opportunity to interact with more experienced, distinguished, and famous psychologists and learn about how they faced their biggest challenges and what they have learned along the path to success. Pre-registration is required. APA/APF Awards Ceremony American Psychological Foundation (APF) President Dorothy W. Cantor, PsyD, and APA President James H. Bray, PhD, will present psychology’s highest awards to outstanding researchers, practitioners, and educators. APF’s Gold Medal Awards for Life Achievement in Psychology will be given at this ceremony, as well as APA’s Distinguished Contribution Awards in the areas of Science, Practice, Public Interest, Education, and International Affairs. Several student awards will also be given. Come support these esteemed psychologists as they receive these prestigious honors.
