Training in behavioral emergencies refers to training in the evaluation and management of life-threatening patient/client behaviors such as suicidal behavior, potentially violent behavior, and vulnerability to interpersonal victimization. 1st and 2nd year interns are primary therapist to patients with severe psychosis,
with substance abuse, and often also have trauma and forensic history. We have
one 2nd year intern who has a forensic placement.

Weekly seminar – (1) TAT, Psychosis, and Dangerousness; (2) CPL/Forensic – 2
sessions; (3) High risk assessment; (4) Countertransference reactions to psychosis and severe axis II; (5) Psychopathology; (6) Treatment issues with violent criminal patients – 2 sessions; (7) Mentally ill criminal offenders group therapy; (8) Sexual offenders treatment group; (9) Trauma focused assessments and treatments – 2 sessions; Tota of 12 out of 40+ sessions seminar. In addition, we’ve done training on the HCR-20, PCLR, PAI, and several grand rounds (i.e., pedophilia, paraphilias, etc.)

Interns have weekly individual supervision for their caseload provided by 2 supervisors, as well as supervision for each treatment modality. 2nd year intern with forensic placement is supervised by a forensic psychologist and the director and supervisor of the forensic psychiatry fellows.
